Until there are none save one

Founded in September 2005 immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Animal Rescue Front has never given up on the animals of the Gulf Coast. ARF is currently responsible for saving the lives of over 1,350 dogs and cats, kittens and puppies that survived the worst natural and animal disaster in US history. During the course of our work we were exposed to the challenges facing communities in many parts of our country particularly the issue of pet overpopulation which had been severely compounded in the hurricane affected region by the total loss of businesses, community, adoptable homes and funding.  Immediately following the hurricane ARF devoted the majority of their efforts to one of the communities hardest hit by Katrina, Waveland, MS. and for the next two years and with the help of many volunteers and financial funding from individual donors and Best Friends ARF transported over 1,100 animals to no-kill shelters, rescue groups and individual homes throughout the US.  Prior to Katrina it had been reported that the euthanization rate in this one community was between 80-90% and for the first 12 months after Katrina we were able to reduce that number to ZERO.

Today Animal Rescue Front is still involved with animal rescue in Waveland, MS and New Orleans but has scaled back considerably as we refocus our energies and look at the bigger picture of the issues facing animals in our country’s sheltering system. Re-energized and determined to eliminate euthanasia in this country, where it is reported we kill 5 million healthy, adoptable animals every year, through education, transport, spay and neuter programs and supporting the abolition of puppy mills ARF is committed to working towards a more compassionate and humane society where not one healthy, adoptable animal spends its life in a shelter or is killed for lack of a good home. We cannot achieve such a goal alone…
